Frequently asked questions
Our journey began with a simple idea, nurtured by a deep passion for gardening and sustainability. As a small, online business based in Marlborough, New Zealand, we pride ourselves on personal attention and dedication to every detail of our handmade wool planters. Our approach is rooted in quality and integrity, ensuring that everything we do reflects our commitment to excellence and a greener future.
What are Woolly planters made of and where do you source your wool?
Our Woolly planters are crafted from 100% natural, pure New Zealand wool, ethically sourced right here in Aotearoa. We're proud to support local industry and ensure the highest quality materials.
Are Woolly planters biodegradable and how long do they take to decompose?
Yes, they are completely biodegradable. When planted directly into the soil, they typically decompose within 5 - 10 weeks enriching the soil as they break down and minimizing environmental impact.
What types of plants can I grow in Woolly planters, and can they be used for larger plants?
Woolly planters are perfect for seedlings, herbs, vegetables, and flowers. Indoors or outdoor. Suitable for any plant anywhere.
How long do the planters last indoors ?
The planters have limited use indoors. After several weeks the bottom will start to decompose if you have placed soil directly into it, which is why its so great for planting in the garden, but if you are wanting to keep inside for a decorative look you may want to consider lining the inside of the planter to stop that decomposition process from starting.
How often should I water plants in a Woolly planter?
Wool's natural properties help regulate soil moisture, often reducing the need for frequent watering compared to traditional pots. Always monitor your plant's specific needs, but you'll likely find you water less.
Are Woolly planters treated with any chemicals or are they reusable?
Absolutely not. Our planters are free from synthetic materials and harsh chemicals. They are as natural as you can get. We only use 100% cotton for the stitching and the label, and 100% pure nz wool for the pot itself. While designed for direct planting and biodegradability, they are robust enough for limited use if kept above ground before planting.
Can I plant the Woolly planter directly into the soil?
Yes, this is one of their core advantages! Planting the entire Woolly planter minimises transplant shock for your plant and allows the planter to naturally integrate with the soil, promoting healthier growth.
What makes Woolly planters special or different from other options?
We pride ourselves on being 100% Kiwi: designed in Marlborough, handmade right here in New Zealand, and crafted from ethically sourced New Zealand wool. This commitment to local quality and unique design truly sets us apart.
What key benefits do Woolly planters offer my plants and the environment?
Woollyplanters provide superior plant health through natural insulation, moisture regulation, and root aeration. By choosing us, you're also making an environmentally friendly choice that supports local craftsmanship and reduces plastic waste.
